Richard Johnson, Chair
Richard Johnson, a city of Richmond native and resident, was appointed as a member of the Industrial Development Authority of the City of Richmond on November 28, 2005. He was reappointed as a member of the Economic Development Authority of the City of Richmond on October 23, 2006. His appointment was sponsored by 4th District Councilwoman, Kathy Graziano.
After being a Mortgage Underwriter for Home Beneficial Life Insurance, in 1974 Mr. Johnson became Executive Vice President of DSC Mortgage Corporation, where he served as Chief Executive Officer of the Mortgage Division of Data Systems Corporation. From 1980-1985 he was Chairman of the Board of Southern Title Insurance Corporation. He served as Chief Executive Officer and was responsible for all aspects of company activities and long range planning. In 1985 Mr. Johnson became Co-owner of General Land Company of Virginia, Inc. and President of Southern Financial Corporation of Virginia and Southern Financial Title Corporation. Currently he is the President and Chief Executive Officer of The Wilton Companies, a real estate investment, development and brokerage firm which has a real estate investment portfolio valued at approximately $350 million, located primarily in the Central Virginia area.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration at the University of Richmond and a Master of Science degree in Real Estate and Urban Land Development at Virginia Commonwealth University.
