SCORE’s mission is to foster vibrant small business communities through mentoring and education. They offer free mentoring services for startups and for existing business owners. They also offer workshops covering a range of subjects, including startup basics, business plan preparation, and their “toolbox”workshops on a range of business topics. Their website has many tools and templates for small businesses, at no cost. They have more than 35 mentors with experience in all aspects of starting and running a business. SCORE mentors will come to your place of business, or will meet with you at several locations throughout Richmond and surrounding counties.

The VAHCC Small Business Certification Resources Department connects small businesses with certification and legal experts to offer guidance throughout the process of obtaining business certifications. There are also industry specific licensing workshops that offer one-on-one mentoring opportunities in areas such as marketing, human resource management, and micro-enterprise development.
